Edge LAP

How quickly and accurately someone will learn something new.

LAP is a short, timed test of learning agility across three formats, built to estimate learning potential rather than existing knowledge.

The Learning Agility Profile combines logical, maths and shapes items into one weighted learning potential score, with each format still reported separately. It takes about thirteen minutes, which makes it practical to use early in a process or across a whole succession or development cohort.

Methodology

How LAP estimates learning potential

Three fast formats, each timed on its own, weighted into one learning potential score while keeping the parts visible.

Three timed sections

  • Logical reasoning is 24 items in 4 minutes, shapes (spatial) is 20 items in 5 minutes, and maths (numerical) is 21 items in 4 minutes.
  • Each section closes automatically when its time is up, so speed and accuracy both count.

A weighted learning potential score

  • Each format is scored out of ten and combined into a weighted learning potential score.
  • The report shows the three format scores as well as the total, so a spiky profile is not hidden behind an average.

Banded and interpreted for development

  • The score sits in one of four bands, from Developing to High, each with plain-language guidance on how someone is likely to absorb new work.
  • Guidance focuses on what kind of support, structure and stretch will help, not on ranking people.
Evidence quality

Why it earns its place in a battery

The important distinction is not only what the assessment is called. It is what kind of evidence it collects and how that evidence can be explained.

Potential, not experience

  • LAP does not depend on what someone already knows, so it is useful for early-career hires, career changers and internal movers.
  • Paired with MIRA, it separates the level someone reasons at from how fast they pick things up.

Built into succession and development work

  • In Succession, MIRA and LAP feed the potential evidence for a candidate alongside performance and aspiration, without being merged into them.
  • Development guidance is written for the manager as well as the individual.
